We teach the Ontario Grade 9–12 curriculum as it is actually delivered in Ontario schools — by course code, in step with the school calendar, in live batches of just three students.
Understanding the system
What the OSSD requires.
To graduate with the Ontario Secondary School Diploma a student must complete 30 credits — 18 compulsory and 12 optional — along with 40 hours of community involvement and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy requirement, met either through the OSSLT or the OLC4O course.
The compulsory 18 include four English credits, three mathematics credits with at least one in Grade 11 or 12, two science, one Canadian history, one Canadian geography, one arts, one health and physical education, one French, and a set of grouped electives.
Course codes decoded
Every Ontario course code ends in a letter that matters enormously for university admission:
- U — University Preparation. Required for direct entry to Canadian universities.
- M — University/College Preparation. Accepted for many programmes; check the specific requirement.
- C — College Preparation.
- O — Open. Available to any student at that grade level.
- W — De-streamed. Grade 9 only, taught as a single combined course.
Grade 12 U courses are what universities count
Ontario university admission is based on the Top 6 Grade 12 U and M courses. If your child is aiming at a Canadian university, their Grade 12 timetable should be built almost entirely from U-level courses — and the Grade 11 prerequisites need to be secure before that timetable is set.
